Adult-friendly payment processors, explained

Updated August 2026

The single thing that blocks most creators from running their own adult site is payments. Mainstream processors won't touch adult content, so you use specialist rails instead. Here's how adult creators actually get paid — cards, crypto, and the risks to plan for.

Why Stripe and PayPal say no

Stripe's and PayPal's acceptable-use policies exclude adult and sexually explicit content. It isn't a grey area you can work around: accounts used for adult sales are frozen and funds can be held. The same goes for most mainstream gateways. So the adult industry runs on its own set of processors built for the category.

Card payments: adult IPSPs

Card payments go through an IPSP (Internet Payment Service Provider) that is "high-risk-approved" for adult. The established names are Verotel, CCBill,Epoch and Segpay, with others such as NetBilling. They handle the parts mainstream processors won't: adult billing, age and compliance requirements, and the elevated chargeback risk of the category.

Two things to understand about card processing:

Because approval takes time, card processing is usually added after launch, while other rails carry you from day one.

Crypto: instant and chargeback-free

Crypto is the always-on rail: no card-style underwriting, global, and live immediately. Its biggest advantage is that payments are final — there are no chargebacks, which removes one of the category's worst risks. Fees are low (around 1–1.5%). Plan for a couple of realities: exchange-rate movement between payment and cash-out, and per-transaction minimums on some coins, which can make very small payments impractical.

Chargebacks, holds and reserves

Three risks shape adult payments. Chargebacks — a fan disputes a card charge — are more common in the category and can cost you the sale plus a fee; crypto avoids them entirely.Payout holds and reserves — a processor holding a portion of your funds against future chargebacks — are normal for high-risk accounts. And on a marketplace, the platform's own payout schedule adds another delay on top. The way to minimise the platform layer is simple: take money into your own accounts so the only party between you and your cash is your processor.

Getting paid on your own platform

On your own site, fan payments settle directly to your own accounts — card via your IPSP, crypto to your wallet. There's no marketplace commission and no platform payout hold, because no platform sits in the flow. That's the core financial reason creators move off marketplaces. This is general information, not legal or financial advice — a processor's current terms and approval decisions always govern your account.

FAQ

Can I use Stripe or PayPal for adult content?

No. Stripe's and PayPal's acceptable-use policies prohibit adult and sexually explicit content, and accounts used for it get frozen or closed. Adult creators use high-risk-approved adult payment processors (IPSPs) and crypto instead.

Which payment processors work for adult creators?

The established adult-friendly card processors (IPSPs) are Verotel, CCBill, Epoch and Segpay, with others like NetBilling. They specialise in 'high-risk' adult billing, handle age/compliance requirements, and let you take card payments through your own account with the processor — which acts as merchant of record and settles payouts directly to you. Crypto is the other common rail.

What is a high-risk merchant account?

'High-risk' is the payments industry's label for categories with more chargebacks or regulatory scrutiny — including adult. It's not negative; it just means you use a processor that's approved for the category. Adult IPSPs are high-risk-approved by design.

Can I accept crypto, and does it have chargebacks?

Yes. Crypto works from day one with no approval step, and payments are final — there are no chargebacks. Fees are low (around 1–1.5%), but you should account for exchange-rate movement and processor minimums.

Do adult payment processors take a cut of my sales?

They charge a processing fee (card is typically around 15% all-in for adult IPSPs; crypto around 1–1.5%), which is the cost of moving the money — not a platform commission. On your own site there's no extra platform cut on top.
